, victor and chirsti, does not show any real change between president obama and mitt romney were after that first debate. still 50% in favor of president obalma and 56% to mitt romney. that is still well within the margin of error. other polls and other pundits that have spoken of a shift in ohio going in favor of mitt romney, momentum is not reflected in the new cnn poll. it is where it was a couple weeks ago. president obama hangs on to ohio and many believe he will hang on and be re-elected to a second term. this is not by a lack of trying by both candidates to win over last-minute votes and they are doing it to spend an incredible amount of money. $177 million buying television time, much of that money spent right here in northern ohio. we should point out in the cleveland market in 2008, total campaign ads, television time, $36 million. in 2010, it was up to $44 million spent. so far, we are at $88 million in cleveland alone. some say it's closer to $97 million and we've still got a way to go. 400% increase over two2008. the cost of a commercial in the 6:00 news is up over 400% in

campaigns are operatng in the last couplef weeks. and romney's trying to go big with big change. paul ryan gave i think quite a good speech on social mobility and poverty earlier in the week. romney gave what was billed as a major speech on the economy, i'm not sure how new it was but they are trying to go big and talk about big issues. the obama campaign i think is going small and even deeper into microtargeting. they have this linda dunham video targeted it to single women. they've got a series of more tightly targeted. they're doing the binders, still doing the binders for women, much more negave stuff. personally i don't know if it will be effective. personally i like the way the romney campaign is try to be more substantive but romney overwhelmingly negative. >> i come back to the walter monday dale race with gary hart. where's the beef. i have heard romney talk about big change, big change. i know he is large bills but i -- know he was big change. this is just, it's just an adjective and a known. as far as paul ryan's speech on poverty, i mean paul ryan's budget, 62% of th

make about change? about why mitt romney is the guy who should be trusted to do things differently than barack obama? >> they are hitting it there. basically things are on the upswing in ohio. and to keep it going, you need to change leadership in washington. that's a strange message. it's true if you look at the numbers in ohio and to an extent in wisconsin. if you look nationally at where obama has been bleeding support, not as much in ohio. not nearly as dramatic. you can definitely link that to the economy there, to the bailout there, and i can think it's a small example, the 1988 election. a sea of red on the electoral map. bush won coast to coast. there were three states in the upper midwest that went democratic. iowa, minnesota and wisconsin. it was because the farm economy had collapsed in the '80s. the economy was so much worse there that they wanted to take it out on the reagan administration so they turned on bush. so i see there's a potential there for kind of a flip of that. if the economy is strong, i could see it would explain why obama is doing better in ohio than nation

his support in the national polls. the wild card here, the change that took place in october -- the biggest statistic that jumps out is people started judging romney the winner on the economy. he's opened now a high lead over obama on the economy. if that overrides their concerns about his personality and character. then there's not much obama can do. but they had had luck with romney's personal negatives before that. so there's potential there. >> i wonder -- i was thinking about this with the appearances in ohio. looking at the economic numbers in ohio. it's been funny at the personality level to see john kasich talk about how much better things have gotten under his leadership. we'd really to prefer you say things are going badly. as the campaign shrinks down to a small number of swing states and they have that improving economic numbers problem as it were on the republican side in florida and ohio, does that change the type of argument they need to make about change? about why mitt romney is the guy who should be trusted to do things differently than barack obama? >> they are hi
